TAKE THE PLUNGE AT KING WEST’S BODY BLITZ SPA

Although there are cranes swirling overhead and new buildings under construction everywhere in King West (soon to join will be King Blue Condos!), a place of serenity awaits when you walk through the doors of Body Blitz. The smell of eucalyptus permeates the air and the smiling attendants make you feel welcome and safe in this sanctuary space known as the place of healing waters.

Although there seems to be relative treatments available on every corner, the experience of the therapeutic waters circuit is unlike anywhere else. A second location recently opened in the area of King St. E., much to the delight of the friendly staff and regular patrons.

 

You may be surprised at first at the humidity in the air, as much as, the half-clad and naked bodies that occupy the refurbished warehouse space on any given day. Tuesday’s are always busiest as the preferred price of $44 is ten dollars less than any other day; but for $54 there are few places in the city where you can indulge yourself to self-pampering and solitude for a couple of hours amidst a busy day.

Behind the ribbed glass windows and checkerboard pane the tall doors open to expose a large saltwater pool with brick facades in the centre that part the waters. The sound of waterfalls are constant and feed the swirling sea salt pool that is the first stop following a cleansing shower. I placed my back against the brick and let the buoyancy lift the stress from my body. I pictured myself in a tropical forest with the warmth of the rain waters falling gently from above.

Pools on each side of the sea-salt pool; include a cold plunge with a temperature maintained at 66 degrees Fahrenheit; and an Epsom salt pool, meant to draw toxins from the body. Patrons complete the therapeutic waters circuit in just under an hour, with suggested timed sessions that  move you from each pool to shower; to aromatherapy steam; and infrared sauna, with plunges or shower between each cycle. The circuit includes a mix of hot and cold prescribed to keep body temperature and heart rate at a healthy level and to increase your energy level and tighten pores. The overall result is a detoxing, satisfying and rejuvenating cleanse of the entire body.

It is recommended that you drink lots of filtered water to stay hydrated and to not over-exert. Body Blitz provides ancient water therapies with state of the art equipment to ensure quality and safety. The spa uses an extensive filtration system in combination with a salt-water system to sanitize the water and they monitor the PH balance to adhere to strict health policies.
