WORKOUT at TOTUM LIFE SCIENCE

Totum Life Science

Usually the first thing I like to find in any new neighbourhood is a really good gym. Even when I am traveling, I’ll always Google “yoga” or “spin classes” before I choose and confirm my hotel accommodations. Most often, I’ll keep my short stays to where I can easily jump out of bed at sunrise, step into my street-walkers and skip over to an early morning exercise class. You might think I’m addicted or a little crazy, but I’ve always been an early riser. Hence, the name Dawn, I suppose. Working in the area for the past month, I quickly realized that King West has several choices within a few city blocks. I was thrilled to know finding a gym close to work was not a problem. Early morning workouts tend to favour parking at just about any downtown location and I'll be able to avoid the rush-hour commute by planning a day-starter. I’ll be taking advantage of my FIRST WEEK FREE at Totum Life Science. This is an offer they extend to all new members. Totum Life Science: Erica ERICA Age 41 General Manager @totumking Totum Life Science focuses on whole health. They offer over sixty classes per week, personal training and sports medicine, all open to the public. It seems like a great place to start, as I begin to check out all of the sweet places to sweat in the King West area. Helen, a local freelance photographer, is Totum’s Sales Director and has lived in the neighbourhood for the past three years. “We call it the bubble,” she says. “You never have to go anywhere else because everything is right here!” HELENE Age 35 Sales Director/Photographer The gym certainly does have everything I am looking for and more. I'm enticed by a class called Boxing Boot Camp, but am most likely to attend Yoga - Yin. I witnessed Mario and Helene’s personal training session mid-afternoon. This is when you will usually find the staff fitting in their own gym time! It hurt me to watch. Seriously. The energy generated by the intensity of their workout turned me into an instant believer. I was motivated at that moment to return soon, to find that fine line between pain and pleasure. I was reminded of the result. It's  always been worth the effort. "I CAN. I WILL. I AM." I reassure myself. The peak times for patrons are not early mornings, but mainly lunchtime and after-office hours until 10pm. The spacious studios are naturally lit with floor to ceiling windows. Cardio and circuit gyms are spotless (which is always a huge factor for me) and provide an airy and open environment. The staff on my initial visit extended a warm welcome and even promised that I could earn gold stars if I joined the regular workout crowd. (Yes, they actually have a chart on the wall where you display your star sticker rewards ;-D) I'm not sure what I'll have to do to earn a gold star. But I'll be reporting back on my workouts -- the people, the places and the ways to get fit in King West and I'll be getting in shape at the same time! See you at the gym. Here’s a few more places to check out for a workout! Please share a review.
